We’re excited to share the great news that the Port of Florence has been awarded funding through the Appalachian Regional Commission’s ARISE program. This investment will support vital improvements that strengthen our region’s infrastructure and economic future. Well done to all who worked to make this project a reality!
Mark Your Calendar: PY2025 CDBG Application Deadline Approaching
ADECA has announced that the Program Year 2025 Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) application deadline is Wednesday, July 23, 2025, by 12:00 PM (Noon).
Based on current funding projections, the anticipated grant ceilings are as follows:
County Fund: $500,000
Large City: $500,000
Small City: $400,000
Community Enhancement: $400,000
Be sure to plan accordingly in order to take advantage of these valuable funding opportunities.
Emergency Recovery Loans Available for Small Businesses
Has your business been impacted by a recent natural disaster or emergency—such as tornadoes, flooding, fire, or wind damage? NACOLG offers a forgivable Emergency Recovery Loan Fund to help small businesses get back on their feet.
Eligible businesses can receive $10,000 to $25,000 at a low 2% interest rate.

50th Annual Senior Citizens Appreciation Day
Over 1,200 senior citizens gathered to celebrate the 50th Annual Senior Citizens Appreciation Day at the Florence-Lauderdale Coliseum, making this year’s milestone event one to remember!

PLANNING & TRANSPORTATION
The Transportation Planning Department submitted Rebuild Alabama Grant applications on behalf of the following:
Muscle Shoals/Tuscumbia, Sheffield, Hamilton, Killen, Littleville, Rogersville, and Bear Creek.
Staff updated new city council districts for the City of Florence and the City of Sheffield.
Staff submitted applications for the Transportation Alternatives Set-Aside Program on behalf of:
Brilliant, Florence, Hamilton, Lexington, Muscle Shoals, Red Bay, and Sheffield.
